PG Comps for 2010/11 season
Here is the content of an article that will appear in the next Airborne Mag.
Note that I have proposed a date for at least one league comp to be based in ( or near Rotorua ) at the end of Feb but there is plenty of room in the calendar for short notice leagues to be run at any of our sites.
PARAGLIDING COMPETITIONS 2010/11
Update to Competition Rules
The Competition Committee has been looking at rule changes for the coming season. The written rules have not been finalised, but we felt it appropriate to update everyone on the plan.
- The NZ Champion awards (incl. Female, DHV2 etc) will be awarded based on the results of the two NZ Opens.
- Dropped tasks will be introduced for the combined NZ Opens / NZ Champion selection.
- The number of tasks which will count is proposed to be 50% of tasks flown, plus one.
There are a few issues to be resolved which surround the change. There may be a knock on effect on the ladder. Keep and eye on the NZHGPA forum where a discussion will most likely be established to enable comment and feedback.
Canungra Cup 2010 – NZ PG Open Round 1
As no other bids from within NZ have been received, the PCC has decided to accept the invitation from the organisers of the Canungra Cup to host the first round.
The Canungra cup will run from 23-30 Oct 2010. Details at www.canungracup.org. Registration opens on July 16th athttp://ozparaglidingcomps.com/. Places will be kept open for visiting pilots.
Note that your entry fee pays for a full transport system with airport transfers, retrieves and day off trips as well as full time paid officials to keep everything running smoothly. Affordable accommodation is being sourced and more information will be available on either the NZHGPA forum or by contacting either Dave Gibbs (davegibbsuphi@yahoo.com.au) or Gavin Zahner (gavin@onesmallplanet.net). In addition to entering the competition, you will also need an Australian temporary membership (now $50AU) which will be available at registration.
This year they are also trying to boost the attendance of new pilots into the comp scene with night time lectures on comp flying, weather and equipment, and daily briefings and mentoring.
Wanaka Paragliding Festival 2011 – NZ PG Open Round 2
Good news everyone, the Wanaka Paragliding Festival is back on the calendar. Confirmed as the second and final leg of the NZ Open (FAI Cat-2), from the 2nd to the 9th January, it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before. Good weather’s booked… I think I say that every year… and sometimes I’m right!
Keep and eye on the forum and competition pages of the NZHGPA website for entry details. I’ll post on the forum once the competition website has been updated. You can also expect an update in the next edition of Airborn. Anyone in need of further information can send me an email (hardmanmark@hotmail.com) or give me a call on 021 809 275.
Regional Competition
Wanaka - Previously, as part of the Wanaka Paragliding Festival, there has been a fun competition. This year, I am proposing to run a 3 day regional competition over the period between Christmas and New Year. This is a great opportunity for those who are new to competitions to get used to competitive flying in a relaxed and educational atmosphere. Once you’ve tuned your skills, you’ll be ready for the nationals! Entry will be free for anyone entering the nationals and $5 for everyone else. Details will be confirmed over the coming weeks and posted on the web. Send me an email if you have any questions hardmanmark@hotmail.com.
Rotorua - 25-27th February 2007. Details to be confirmed. Contact Evan for further details gsifly@gmail.com.
If anyone else is keen to run a regional competition, please contact one of the Paragliding Competition Committee (Kat West, Evan Lamberton and myself) with details.
Hopefully see you all at some of the comps.
Mark, Evan & Kat.
