HG mentoring: what does it entail? why do it? what are the benefits?

The Committee is discussing pilot mentoring. Sounds great! But what does hang glider pilot mentoring actually mean?

• How does it start?
• What are the responsibilities of the mentor?
• What are the responsibilities of the mentorees? 
• What are the benefits to both sides?
• How long does the mentoring program last?
• What would a typical mentoring program do during the course of one flying season?
• What are the goals?

Let's get some discussion going so that we can blow away the warm fuzzies of "pilot mentoring" and get an idea of what really lies beneath the surface.
