Hay Toni, I was on my way out the door at the time you posted your comment. Yes, rather early, but I'm trying to turn around the rather lethargic HG approach to flying by launching early. Unfortunately the westerly pushed through stronger and way earlier than I expected so I was on the deck at Matakana before 1pm. Base was low too so you didn't miss much - although the ski did look fantastic! Happy thoughts for next weekend, be a shame not to take advantage of the drought. The last time it was this dry.....well, lets not talk about mid week flying!
I kept monitoring the weather, the last time I check around midday it was steady SW 25kph min 18kph gust 40kph, a bit much for a mere mortal like me.
With the Westerly forecast you did the right thing by going early. Especially for Moirs.
It sounded just right for hang gliding, the forecast was for cloud base around 3000ft although the wind was forecast to swing and increase to 15knts mid-afternoon.
So I gave up hope. What will be, will be (I feel a song coming on).
Next Saturday does looks promising, but we must remember we live in Auckland. Even some rain mid-week, I need it to help the grass grow for my sheep.
Did Moir's
