Yes, you lucky people it's Easter at the Paeroas time again!

AND NOW, WE ARE ALSO HOLDING A REGIONAL LEAGUE AT THE SAME TIME! Bring your gear, GPS loaded with waypoints and we will set tasks for you. This is probably the last chance to score points on the ladder for this season. Remember, your position on the ladder will be there all winter! Go for it! Contact Xen 021545534 sxzambas@vodafone.co.nz

As you all had so much fun last year, it would be downright criminal not to give it another go this year.

Once again, we have the permission from the Waikiti Thermal Hot Pools campsite and the Waikiti Sqaush club to use the Squash club grounds for overflow camping and parking.

We have also been offered the use of their meeting room for GPS downloads and to plug in to power for lights in the evening and for chargers. So there is no excuse for flat batteries!!

As per last year, I remind you of a few simple rules:

  • There is no one to "house clean" so please make sure that you clean up after yourself (and anyone else that has forgoten to) and make sure there is no rubbish left lying around before you go flying for the day. We want to use the site again next year.
  • There will be some lighting in the form of a strip light and perhaps a flood light or two. If you have spare extension chords and powerbars please bring them along.
  • Tent space can  be at a premium. Even though there seems to be stacks of space a lot of it is very lumpy. Please park vehicles on the gravel until everyone has found their spot.
  • Please be reasonable with the use of power.
  • The squash club will still be in use so be considerate to the squashies.
  • We will be making a collection Saturday night for the Squash club to show our appreciation. All donations greatfully accepted.

Travel to take off:

  • If you want to take your vehicle to the top it must be 4wd. If you have room please offer to take people/gear up. We need to minimise the number of vehicles going up to keep track damage down and ensure there is enough room to park at the top. We won't be the only ones there.
  • If you can, offer/organise to have your vehicle at the bombout paddock. The more vehicles there the more chance there is of getting back up to the top sooner for another flight. (Assuming you haven't gone on some epic xc flight that is!).
  • Offer to pay for your ride even if it is your buddy. Nobody wants to ask, and the fuel bill can knock the edge off an otherwise perfect day. The standard rate is $5.00 but use your judgement especialy if you have had a long retrieve.

Fun comp:

  • If you want to join in the Funcomp please register with Xen when you see me. We just need your name and NZHGPA pin number.
  • The Funcomp is open to HG and PG. There are no classes for different types of wings but there will be extra points awarded for lower airtime pilots. Totaly at the discretion of the organiser and in proportion to the amount of alcohol profered.
  • This is NOT a full on organised competition. There are no retrieves (other than what you can organise yourselves) and there is NO checking to see if you are overdue/lost/stuck in some bush. Having a radio and monitoring channel 7 is a good safety measure.
  • Each day's flights will be scored at the end of the day between 6.30 and 7.30 pm. If you bring me you GPS (from the approved list) and download cable I will download it and give you a score.
  • The task format is as follows: A list of waypoints will be available with each waypoint being allocated points. These waypoints can be downloaded from the Airspace Project page.
  • A map with the location of these waypoints will be available so you can plan your flight. It's worthwhile having your own map to mark these on. A limited number of maps with waypoints will be available.
  • Fly to any number and combination of waypoints YOU WANT, as many times as you want to collect  points.
  • The winners for HG and PG for the day will be posted in the meeting room. No, there are no prizes, just the kudos!

Finaly,

The great EATP BBQ!

We will be attempting to fill your gut again with our usual gourmet BBQ sizzle on Saturday night. Free to all Auckland club members. Everyone is welcome. If you are not an AHGPA member it's $5.00. Please let Xen know by Friday night if you are coming.

Okay, that's all for now. Will give a final update by the 29th of March. See ya there!

Comments

So tell us what happened

I hear there were some good flights and I hear a 14 year old beat some slightly more experienced pilots but there must be more to tell from the weekend.

young and brave...

he is 13 and his vario stopped working at the first turn point. His track log is logged as mine (Eva) for technical reasons.
