Live tracking

If you are in to clever techo stuff then try this out. Manolis at Leonardo has set up a live tracking server and software that will send your position from your cell phone to a web page while you fly. It works by taking the GPS signal either directly from a GPS equipped phone or from one that is connected by blue tooth to your phone and using the GPRS network to send data to the web page every few seconds. Cost? About 20c per flying hour at Vodafone's daily rate of $1 per 10Mb. The amount of data is minimal.  Have a look at www.livetrack.com for details. You can see my test walk around at Waikite   here http://test.livetrack24.com/live_show_track_gmaps.php?trackID=2431 and a short flight from Paeroas here http://www.livetrack24.com/live_show_track_gmaps.php?trackID=3892   Why bother? Well imagine having all the top pilots in a competition carrying a simple gps cell phone and allowing an on-line audience to follow the action live. Just like the Americas Cup but a whole lot cheaper. It could be   useful in locating a missing pilot too.Of course whether or not you want your boss/wife or other pilots to know where you are is another thing....

Hi Evan, great post.

Hi Evan, great post. Fantastic that the packet data links directly into Leonardo like that. Sure saves uploading the flippin thing at the end of the day !

I'll give it a whirl with my Blackberry if it is supported and post back some comments.

The link you supplied is just a page holder for advertising searches. The Leonardo link is http://test.livetrack24.com/doc/join.php

If you are attempting to

If you are attempting to install onto a Blackberry that is GPS enabled I suggest using the mobile page to do the download instead of trying to download and load into the blackberry from Blackberry desktop manager.

I got it on my phone today and set it up but the bloody battery died before I had a chance to test it !

GPS will suck the life out of your phone, and I have GPS as well as bluetooth to link to my carkit but with a fully charged phone should get a day worth of charge. I'm doing a roadtrip tomorrow so will test it with my car
