Auckland/Waikato league 2 on 7/03 POSTPONED

Yes, due to a bit of inclement weather the organisers have decided to postponed the league to the reserve dates of 28-29/03/09.
Watch for a further post on Thursday 26/03 for the latest update on what will be happening for the weekend. Hopefully the weather gods will smile on us long enough to get a few tasks in......
Keep praying,
Xen.

postponed dates
Hi Xen, is their anyway within the rules we can postpone the comp on a weekend by weekend basis? seems a shame to miss out on a weekend with favourable tasking weather if its available. Hope we get more pilots there this time, the first round was a great social day with great flying as well. Thanks to all those that put it together!!! Robbo
Hi Robbo, sorry for late
Hi Robbo, sorry for late reply. Birthday party got in the way. Lol. Being able to postpone on a weekend by weekend basis would be nice, but we have to fit in our main and reserve dates so that they don't clash with any other leagues that will be going on. We had to change our reserve dates for league 1 because it clashed with the HG league dates.
Anyway, fingers crossed for league 2. Which I will not be able to make.....
Hi Robbo, the comp dates are
Hi Robbo, the comp dates are set around June for the following year. This gives the PCC a chance to negotiate with comp bidders and shuffle any dates that may conflict. The idea is to get as many valid comps in the season and having them all onthe same epic weekend wouldn't work.
On top of that the organisers have to give enough notice to out of towners to arrange transport, accomodation etc if they are travelling to compete. The top pilots are vying for points to be elligible for the national team and they need as much time to plan as possible.
Unfortunatley the comp bidders have totake pot luck and hope for the best ! I tried (unsucessfully) for several years to host a comp during that majic July/August pre-spring weekends we usually have but missed it every year....sometimes by just a weekend !
Comp Dates
Thanks Daron for taking the time to explain the comp dates, this would be a good topic for further discussion as I wonder just how many pilots do take the opportunities to gather National Ladder points to compete at the worlds compared to those who compete to participate? At the first Auckland League comp we only had 10 pilots turn up and it would be interesting to see how many pilots New Zealand wide travel to other national comps specifically for the aim of competing Internationaly. Perhaps (as has been touched on over a cold beer) we need to hold more "mini" Auckland comps, dates set on the Thursday prior to a good weather weekend with no points towards the National League and try and get more pilots over the "assumed" hurdle of competing in Cross Country. We might be rewarded with more Auckland entrants at the Nationals etc. Food for thought? Thanks again, see you on the hill, Robbo
No probs Robbo. I remember
No probs Robbo.
I remember Shaun Gilbert hosting a fun comp in the Hawkes Bay that went over a long weekend. Any pilot could fly any flight in the Hawkes Bay (with multiple flights over a day counting) with the total km for the weekend as your final score.
He also attempted to do a multi sport event from Te Mata one year involving mountain biking down teh face, running back up and then flying back down to the landing field. Teams or individuals. Weather crapped out unfortunately.
Could do the same with Moirs and the track that runs E of Jeremys house (Ripley and John Walton will fondly remember the huge ditches and mud they attempted to 4WD down) for the MTB track, run back up the goat track face and glide down to the bottom.
