Moirs Weather Station - Bad news
I'm sorry to inform the club that the Moirs Weather station has been vandalised and parts of the equipment have been stolen. I have removed the "guts" and am attempting to test it on a bench to see if it's still usable.Parts stolen were the solar panel and battery backup. Security notices and signs have been torn down and removed.
If the weather station can be pieced together we'll discuss options on re-siting with better security.
Sory for the inconvienience. I am gutted this has happened. Unfortunately the land owner has experienced long term vandalism and theft so I guess it was bound to happen.

Hey all... I have a spare solar panel and regulator kicking about I would be willing to put towards the cause if needed... let me know anyhows... And... a basball bat if we find the culprit...
Why on earth would somebody
Why on earth would somebody do this? Is it on disputed land or something? It seems a long way to walk for a bit of random vandalism.

As for who did it, I'm not sure. The area is used heavily by hunters who can, by permit hunt in the DOC area or by permission on the covenanted private bush and the forest owners say there are dope growers up there. The farm manager has found random people on his farm hunting, sightseeing and even doing adventure tours before. Stock get stolen, gates taken down etc, etc...
My last flight there a few weeks back some random non-flying people turned up as I was climbing out to base and wasn't about to drop out of the thermal just to topland and check them out.
