The club is inviting all members to come and join us for another flying extravaganza at the Paeroas. Launch was busy all day...great clouds!Launch was busy all day...great clouds!
Fly all day along the ridge or go over the back for some XC. We will have some fun competitions to add a bit of spice. Maybe a prize or two! If the conditions are not on for the Paeroas on the day we will look at going to the Kaimais, but we will be based at the Waikiti Thermal Pools at the base of the Paeroas for the duration. Last year was a great success with good weather and a great turn out from hangies and panties.

In the event of a non flyable day there are great mountain biking and walking tracks at the Whakarewarewa forest or just hang out in the hot pools. We will post an update on Cloudbase Thursday night to confirm that we will be going.
The Waikiti Valley Thermal Pools http://www.hotpools.co.nz/ is now full, however we have arranged overflow camping at the adjacent squash club as we did last year, and the facilities at the camp site can be used for the cost of entry to the hot pools. See Xen to arrange paymant. The Waikiti squash club have offered their grass area and parking FOR FREE, although a donation will be accepted to show our appreciation. Again, see Xen. BYO drinks and all you can eat if you get in fast enough!
See you there!

The good weather of the past few days seems set to continue in to Easter, so we will be heading down to Waikiti and camping at the squash club adjacent to the Waikiti Thermal pools campsite. http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?hl=en&ie=UTF8&ll=-38.327762,176.302425&spn...

Fun Comp

Hi everyone

I've been asked to organise a fun comp for Easter at the Paeroas. I've decided to try something new to even out the playing field for less experienced pilots, but there are still big distance tasks for the more experienced.

We will be allocating scores to a set of waypoints. Points will be scored for making any waypoint on the list, and a 1.5 multiplier will be applied for on out-and-back from and to launch. Circuits of several waypoints will score the sum of their points, and a circuit that ends at launch will have the 1.5 multiplier applied to the sum. Expect several low scoring but close waypoints and a few more at various distances with correspondingly higher scores. You can return to a waypoint as many times as you like (provided you either make a different waypoint or return to launch in between), so someone with the persistance to fly, for example, 10 trips to a '2' waypoint will (hopefully) equal a single XC flight that is 5 times further away. That's the theory, I hope everyone will bear with us while we work out the kinks. I also hope it will encourage people to give it a try, and let them fly within their own comfort level.

Prizes will be awarded for best daily score, and a grand prize for the best score over all the days. So, if you can only come for a day you can still win, but don't go home a day early or you might miss out on the big one!

You will need:
- A flying machine, with a current WOF (yes I will be checking).
- A harness with a back protector and a reserve.
- An altimeter
- A UHF radio

You really want to have:
- A GPS (go and buy one!, they are cheap these days).
- A pocket digital camera (phone with a camera is fine).

The exact tasks will be decided on the day, but if you have a GPS please help the process by downloading the North Island competition waypoints to your GPS if you can (See the 'Competitions' link on Cloudbase). I may be able to download waypoints if you have a GPS compatible with CompeGPS, a cable, and any required drivers.

email me at broberts@simworks.com if you have any queries or suggestions!.

Thanks to everyone for coming to the Paeroas and making this such a great event. I hope you all had as good a time as I did. And maybe enjoyed my launching antics!
Post your highlights and photos. We'd love to see them.

See you out there next time.
